Vodacom cellphone users left high, dry – and in silence

Vodacom subscribers in the Gauteng area took to social media (see below) to give expression to their frustrations on 27 January when they start to realise their Facebook Updates and all important Tweets did not make it over the aether.

It seems Gauging Vodacom subscribers were unable to access data services. They also had difficulty making voice calls.

IT news Africa quotes downdetector.co.za who said the service had gone down at 12:58 PM South Africa Standard Time (SAST). While no reason for the outage was initially revealed at the time of the outage, Vodacom’s Executive Head of Corporate Affairs, Tshepo Ramodibe, told IT News Africa that they experienced a technical failure on one of our prepaid systems in Pretoria, which affected certain prepaid subscribers nationally.

Ramodibe said: “The fault affected data and recharge services. We are happy to report that the incident has been resolved and extend an apology to all affected customers for any inconvenience caused.”
