Xenobots Can now Self-Replicate

Its been a year since scientist first sought to create the first living robot. Now it seems it has learnt how to reproduce.

Xenobots Can now Self-Replicate

Xenobots in recent days can now also self-replicate and assemble baby organisms in their mouth. Weird right?

Its been about a year since scientists have first sought to create the first living robot. Now, it seems it has learned how to produce offspring.

It seems like jobs are not the only thing that robots can take over. The robots are now able to reproduce offspring by themselves.

This invention was first created through frog cells and has been proven to heal themselves when injured, move on their own, and communicate with each other.

Scientists first discovered that these Xenobots are now able to replicate by moving around and assembling what they call ‘baby cells’ that as a result forms another Xenobot.

These replicas function in the same way as the Xenobots they were replicated by. This phenomenon still has to be studied in-depth as not much is known about the Xenobots other than they are able to replicate.

“These cells have the genome of a frog, but, freed from becoming tadpoles, they use their collective intelligence, a plasticity, to do something astounding.”

At this time, it is a bit of an early stage to really tell what their significance can be in the world. There are, however, many possibilities.

“There are many things that are possible if we take advantage of this kind of plasticity and ability of cells to solve problems,” Bongard said.
