What Madiba started – and continued doing even in those difficult years while he was incarcerated – is now being built on by our nation. Today, despite many differences and challenges, we continue to see numerous programmes to promote unity, reconciliation, nation building and cohesion. And as the DA’s Eastern Cape workhorse Pine Pienaar said in a statement to urge South Africans to celebrate Madiba’s birthday “this is amazing for a society recovering from three centuries of colonialism and Apartheid”.
What South Africans have achieved in terms of nation building is unheard of in the history of human kind. Without Madiba, this would never have happened. Let’s celebrate our great statesman and leader.
