Tu Chicas (Wimbledon, London)

From the moment we entered, the atmosphere at Tu Chicas was homely. Soft Mexican background music and lovely interior Mexican décor, as well as five big paintings and SA flags, created a cosy feel.

Tu Chicas (Wimbledon, London)

A wide variety of cocktails were available, garnished with fresh fruit and we were surprised to see the selection of SA beverages including Windhoek Lager, Castle, Hunters Dry, Savanna and even Springbokkies!

For starters, I had a quesadilla, grilled tortilla pancake stuffed with goat cheese, sun-dried tomatoes, basil and salsa. My partner had calamari served with a coconut chilli dip and lemon.

Both our plates were colourful and we could see that the dips were freshly made, a true treat.

For mains, I had fajitas, an interesting dish with tortilla pancakes and side extras, where you roll your own fajita with fillings like chicken, peppers, cheese, salsa, sour cream and guacamole. Served in large portions, they sure tasted better than any Mexican restaurant I have eaten at in London! My partner had the enchiladas, a spicy beef filling in a tortilla pancake stuffed with beans, grated cheese and salsa served with rice, guacamole, beans and sour cream on the side. After our meal we had no space for any more, though our taste buds were teased with the variety of desserts fit for a king. We took our time in the lovely tranquil atmosphere, had soft drinks and relaxed. No one rushed us and we had a romantic evening.

Tu Chicas staff impressed us with their friendly hospitality and we were served with excellence. At the back of the restaurant there is also a private smoking area. We saw couples and families visiting that night, and one thing is for sure – come hungry! You will leave Tu Chicas with a happy full tummy! The food is good, rich in flavour and very colourful!

We would recommend this lovely Mexican restaurant in the heart of Wimbledon as a must for all. It is a true family restaurant of which the owners, believe it or not, are South Africans!.
