Ingredients:
Sauce:
- 1 cup / 201 grams sugar
- ½ Cup / 113 grams butter
- 3 large cups boiling water
- 1 Cinnamon Stick
Ingredients Batter:
- 1 cup / 201 grams sugar
- ¼ cup / 57 grams butter – melted
- 3 eggs
- 3 cups / 384 grams Self-raising flour – Sifted
- 100ml water
- Cinnamon sugar (optional)
Method:
- Before you make the dumpling batter, combine the water, sugar, butter and cinnamon stick in a large saucepan/pan over medium heat.
- In a large bowl, whisk the sugar and melted butter, then add the eggs and beat until smooth and creamy, Sift in the flour
- Add the water and mix well.
- When the syrup is warm but not boiling, remove the cinnamon stick and place teaspoons of the batter into the liquid, they will expand quite a bit.
- Cover the saucepan with a lid and allow the dumplings to steam for 5 to 15 minutes.
- The dumplings are ready when they are firm, if not, let them steam for another few minutes.
- Gently remove them with a slotted spoon and sprinkle over a little cinnamon sugar. (optional)
