Highly-praised for the location of the vineyard in the beautiful Hemel-en-Aarde Valley, which boasts a cool climate, Creation Wines was celebrated recently for their well-deserved spot on The World’s Best Vineyards 2021 list.
Known for their immaculate Chardonnay and Pinot Noir varietals, the wine farm was placed 10th on the global list – proving once again that South African wines belong on a world stage. It also makes them the best vineyard in Africa.
“At Creation every dawn brings an exciting new challenge and innovation is a way of life,” says Creation Wines co-owner Carolyn Martin. This ethos of constant renewal has led to the estate earning the following accolades in the 2021 World’s Best Vineyards survey: Top-ranking South African Vineyard, Best Vineyard in Africa and Number 10 in the World.
The World’s Best Vineyards (WBV) sets out to highlight wine tourism and enhance the visitor experience. The Voting Academy consists of some 500 leading wine experts, sommeliers and travel journalists. The adjudication is based on various criteria such as the overall experience, ambience, cuisine, activities, views and staff. The results are collated and converted into a final Top 50 list.
“Since 2002, we have put our passion and energy into making world-class wines, such as our Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. We have designed delicious and imaginative seasonal menus using fresh, locally sourced produce. We have trained and developed our team to deliver excellent service and are delighted with their enthusiasm and knowledge,” said Martin.
On Thursday, Premier Alan Winde joined by the Provincial Minister of Agriculture, Dr Ivan Meyer, and the Provincial Minister of Finance and Economic Opportunities, David Maynier, handed over a trophy to Creation Wines for their international acclaim.
“Not only has Creation Wines been voted as the best vineyard in South Africa and the continent, but it has also achieved the highest spot a South African wine farm has ever reached on the list. It is heartwarming to see our wine industry doing so well in this prestigious competition, putting our vineyards and cellars on the map,” said Winde.
He congratulated Creation Wines on their achievement, and commended several other South African wine farms that were listed for their achievements.
“You are all playing an important role in reviving our economy and creating work opportunities,” he said.
