We don’t have to tell the average South African this because they will know all too well: the new X-Class Merc is the first modern bakkie built by the German manufacturer and it will be available in SA – eventually.
The dual-cab Mercedes-Benz comes in two styles: Stylish Explorer or Powerful Adventurer. Both are concept cars at this stage. Initial reports say the X-Class shares architecture with the new Nissan NP300 Navara while Mercedes-Benz say this in not comparable to other bakkies, this is in fact “the first premium pickup” to ever hit the market.
“The market launch of the Mercedes-Benz X-Class in Europe will begin in late 2017,” said Daimler. “The new model series will be positioned in the segment at an attractive price. The pickup will be manufactured in a production cooperation with the Renault-Nissan Alliance.”
“Production for the European, Australian, and South African markets will start at the Nissan plant in Barcelona, Spain, in 2017.”
