My trip started with a train trip from Paris to Cannes. From the outskirt of Cannes I could already see the abundance of wealth on display from yachts to mansions. I was coming to rock the best party in town, the biggest beach party in France with 10, 000 sun happy revelers going mental. And I was scared.
But when I got on stage, I was right at home. The show was electric! The next day at 5am, I headed back to Paris to get the plane to Hamburg for a DJ set at their annual summer festival – a pretty laid back art festival with classic musicians and installations.
I was pleased to find out that we were playing with the Daladala Soundz crew who we recently played with in their hometown of Munich. Daladala Soundz, as part of Out Here Records, are responsible for the kwaito compilation ‘Mzansi music’ which featured SA artists Zola, Mandoza and loads more.
Another party smashed and onto the next plane to Oslo for the sold out Oya Festival. Arctic Monkeys, Lilly Allen and Erol Alkan were some of artist on the bill. I performed with my crew, The Very Best, with Esau on fire from the USA tour. The audience was ecstatic, dancing and singing along even in the rain!
It was then back to Paris, to chill out and hang out with friends, rich kids and Parisian celebrities at the Concorde Atlantique boat. Before hangover recovery, I was on another plane to Berlin for the Puma World Championship closing party where Usain Bolt, the fastest man in the world, was 100% Mr Party.
Excitement was in the air as Bolt was about arrive backstage… I got ready to take a photo with this young living legend. The hype was insane, there must have been 80 camera news crews, and for backstage that’s a lot! So I gave up trying to take a picture, not knowing then that we would later end up partying all night together.
