If you lived during a time when the Drive-In was one of the most exciting forms of entertainment – you know exactly why South Africans yearn for the good old days of uncomplicated fun.
The good news is that it’s back starting Friday, June 4 – the great news is that they will be showing latest releases too which makes the experience something to look forward to.
Sandton City and Ster-Kinekor announced a collaboration to bring a premium Drive-In experience – located on the Sandton City Rooftop, with access from the parking entrance on Sandton Drive – to you.
“Sandton City is thrilled to be the owner of The City Drive-In and to present this monumental addition to the public,” says Preston Gaddy, General Manager of Sandton City.
“The City Drive-In is a great differentiator for the property and offers customers the opportunity to engage in a shared entertainment experience, from the safety and comfort of a controlled, socially distant space.”
The City Drive-In plans to screen movies from all genres, for children, adults, older movies and new releases too. Patrons can expect two screenings over the weekend – and a matinée show on Saturday and Sunday for children.
In addition to this, Sandton City has called on independent filmmakers, producers and distributors, to apply to have their movies screened too. The pandemic has had such a negative effect on this industry and they want to help where they can.
