There’s nothing simple about the works of art you stumble across on the beach – except for the elements used to create them – sea sand, water and a handful of tools. It is astounding how from a heap of sea sand, artists like Lindokuhle Innocent Zungu and Reon Zeff can create masterpieces.
Their works of art are on display on the beaches of Cape Town, and even though the designs are so very different, the art is always magnificent.

True sea sculptures have a technique and skill that they’ve taken years to master. It’s all about the perfect sand to water ratio and precision tools, but mostly it’s their ability to turn something as ordinary as sand into a something extraordinary.
Make a living off their creative sea sand art
Both artists are highly-regarded, and make a living off their creative take on current events and elements significant to the Mother City.
Zeff shares his masterpieces at Blouberg Beach, and dabbles in sea creatures and the life of the sea. If you’re unsure how to find him, follow the map to Ons Huisie Restaurant and you’ll sure enough stumble on his carefully crafted work.
On the opposite end of Cape Town at Muizenberg beach you can lose yourself in the artwork of Super Sandman, real name Lindokuhle Innocent Zungu. His large pieces of art range from wildlife to airplanes and thrones. Zungu is extremely talented and friendly to chat to. It is amazing to see him escape reality and throw himself into his sand work, it takes a true artist to accomplish what he does with such precision.
