Since winning I have been trying to educate them on the humour of the pantomime, but this has been an uphill battle! Hopefully once they have seen the show, they will be converted!
Christmas is very soon upon us and the charity collectors are out in force! I marvel at their determination to extract money from the meanest members of the public. There they were in the rain on Friday, decked out in their Santa hats, collecting buckets in hand, singing their hearts out! The rain didn’t seem to deter them nor the crazy lady that decided to help their cause by singing operatic style and out of tune. A woman even stalked passed and muttered to her son, ‘they were terrible last year and even worse this year, I’m not giving them any money’. So much for goodwill to all men…
In the beginning of December, I went to the Taste of Christmas show, where I bought what I thought would be a great gift for the South African friend that had everything! It’s called a ‘Diablo’. Remember those jaffel irons we used to have in SA, to make sandwiches on an open fire? Well, this is a posh version, with cast iron and a plastic handle, retailing at £15.
Earlier this month, I was at an art exhibition in my local library with artworks that ranged in style, skill and subject matter. I managed to get a small, unframed painting for £15 and to add to my happiness, a frame that fitted perfectly for £1 from a charity shop. This is a gift I have given myself for Christmas!
This year I have been unlucky enough to draw the short straw and will be working on Christmas day, so to all people working in the essential services, and to all the ones who are not, I wish you a very Merry Christmas and a wonderful, and safe New Year.
