The love between Whiskey and his owner can’t be bought

The Garden Route SPCA still makes routine visits to assist the dogs in the area, and Whiskey is clearly one of their favourites.

The love between a dog and his owner can't be bought

The love between and dog and its owner can’t be bought or replaced… Do you remember the viral picture of Cordelia Nqoqo and Whiskey? His love for Nqoqo remains as solid as the day she almost surrendered him.

The picture of Whiskey wrapping his legs around Nqoqo was first shared by Head Inspector Salomé Bruyns from the Garden Route SPCA, and has since gone viral.

The SPCA revisited Whiskey a week ago and their love is still going strong.

“Went to visit our famous boy to deliver food and he still loves mommy very much. Honestly I haven’t seen a dog being this in love with his mommy like Whiskey is with his mommy. When she walks away he grab her by the legs with his front legs. 🤣 Gets me everytime ❤,” read the post on their Facebook page.

Whiskey’s owner approached the SPCA to surrender her dog in April. She could not provide for the dog any longer and as much as it broke her heart to give him away, she didn’t have any other choice. The dog stood up against her and hugged her lovingly, as if he knew what she was about to do.

“He clung to his owner for dear life. There was only one way to describe it – pure love. Yes, we are an animal welfare, but we also care deeply for the people out there. We see the poverty that some of these people have to endure and we can’t just erase those images when we go home at night.

“I couldn’t take Whiskey from his owner as she clearly loves him and he loves her. So I decided to make it my mission to ensure that Whisky is cared for,” Bruyns said.

Instead, she appealed to the public for help and in a short period of time the post was shared widely – and enough money was raised to keep Whiskey at his home, as well as help other helpless animals get fed.
