Popular lifestyle blog 2OceansVibe picked up on a song created by The Parlotones, a song created for the German football team. Watch the song for yourself, read what Seth Rotherham of 2OceansVibe has to say, as well as Mahala.co.za and SA comedian, MC and speaker Don Packett who has created his own spoof video as well and then see The Parlotones response on their facebook page.
2OceansVibe says:
Product endorsements and commercialisation aside, aligning yourself with another nation and singing for their victory in a tournament which is being held on your home soil (a tournament in which your own country is competing), may well be the final straw for Parlotones fans.
‘Aligning’ might be a bit tame. it seems as if the Parlotones have in fact defected to Germany. In their new song, which is widely celebrated in Germany, the ex-South African band sing for the German football side to ‘Come Back As Heroes’.
Mahala.co.za had this to say:
Shock! Horror! The Parlotones, ‘proudly South African’ soft rockers have endorsed the German football team for the World Cup! Hell they even wrote a song for them. ‘Come Back As Heroes’. Kotch. But really what did we expect?
The story first broke on 2Oceansvibe on 15 June 2010 and soon elicited a fiery 2,300 word responsefrom Parlotones frontman Kahn Morbee defending his patriotism and declaring that he’s not a corporate whore.
