Having already interviewed a few South African entrepreneurs, she aims to interview more SA figures who are doing amazing things and she hopes to get this aired on an SA TV channel too!
What gave you this idea?
I felt there was a need for a positive programme, a positive reflection of South Africa and there are great stories to be shared in South Africa that can inspire and motivate the nation into positive actions and I wanted to discover those stories and want to continue to discover those stories.
What is your background in film?
I have worked on independent film productions for the last four to five years. This is my first documentary which I have been pondering over for a while to make. I have taken courses in my spare time on film production. Some of the film productions I have been involved in have been shown and won awards in film festivals in the UK and US which has allowed me to travel, represent the film along with the other filmmakers and meet film executives in the industry.
Who was the first entrepreneur you interviewed for this series?
Nick Binedell, Founding Director of the Gordan Institute of Business Science in South Africa. I found him inspiring in the way that he looked at South Africa as a ‘new frontier’, and how he was able to turn many negative factors about South Africa into positive money making opportunities.
Who else have you interviewed?
– Aaron Mokoena (South African Bafana Bafana Captain)
– Avi Lasarow (Founder and Managing Director of Trimega Labs)
– Gareth Knight (Founder of Technovated)
– Angel Jones (Founder and Creative Director of Morris Jones & Co advertising company)
Aaron’s interview is available on the website and a trailer of Avi Lasarow’s interview so far, but we will be making the key points of all the other entrepreneurs available on the website soon.
What do you hope to achieve from this project?
To inspire, motivate and educate South Africans and especially inspire the younger generation. We hope to get the show transmitted on one of the SA TV channels.
What next?
There are a couple of TV networks who we are negotiating with to transmit the show. There are other entrepreneurs with great stories to be told such as Rob Moore, who having failed his matric exams went on to launch niche men’s magazines in South Africa, including Men’s Health and Kickoff. He pioneered the first franchise of AJAX in SA and now his consulting company Extra Time, manages Steven Pienaar and Aaron Mokoena. I would love to interview the founder of Nandos too.
South Africa is a new frontier and as Nick Binedell said for South Africa’s size there are more entrepreneurs coming out of it so it would be great to unearth their stories and inspire the new generation.
