Our walk then took us to a slightly more humorous story, with a ghost named Scratching Fanny of Cock Lane. I suggest you go on the tour to find out just how she got this name!
A few more narrow and chilling alleyways and church yards later and we found ourselves down on the level of London where Roman Londinium once thrived. There are old Roman ruins and this is also where mass burial grounds from the Black Plague lie. It was very spooky and quiet, and the sounds of London seem to disappear. Mediums who visit this area feel overwhelmed and often faint.
Nearby is Peuters Hall where the ghost of a Roman Legionnaire stands guard and fellow ghost walkers often capture ghostly orbs in their photos of the building.
The tour continues with more stories of ghostly monks, someone sitting on the end of your bed, and being touched by a cold hand while showering.
The ghost walk was both informative and interesting – and spine chilling. You get to see parts of London that you would never think were there. From old churches tucked away in small alleyways, to Roman ruins and hidden burial grounds. Richard’s storytelling takes you back in time and you can almost see your surroundings as they would have been centuries ago.
For a nerve-jangling, excursion into the city of the dead with streets so sinister that you will never be sure who, or what, might be waiting around the next corner.
