The Gauteng MEC for community safety, Sizakele Nkosi-Malobani, announced these shocking statistics in response to questions posted in the legislature by the Democratic Alliance. He said he is aware of 271 active police officers who have been found guilty of criminal offences. At least 248 of these officers have been found guilty of serious crimes such as aggravated assault and even robbery.
Michele Clarke of the DA told Netwerk24 at least 22 new criminal cases against cops are registered every month. The DA will now ask that all these officers are sacked immediately. Officers should be trained better and proper background checks should be done before they are admitted to the police.
