South African musician AKA is still grappling to come to terms with the death of his fiancée Nelli Tembe. His publicist Phumza Nohashe told TshisaLIVE on Tuesday that he has sought grief counselling and is “doing as well as can be expected under the circumstances”.
Anele ‘Nelli’ Tembe (22) and AKA (Kiernan Forbes) were in Cape Town over the weekend celebrating with friends. On Sunday morning (April 11), Tembe fell from the 10th floor of the luxury Pepperclub Hotel to her death.
“When paramedics arrived on the scene, she had sustained polytraumatic injuries. She was in a critical condition and they started a full life-support resuscitation. Unfortunately, her injuries were too severe and she was declared deceased,” explained Netcare 911 spokesperson, Shawn Herbst.

Nohashe says AKA is surrounded by family and friends, as he tries to deal with “losing the love of his life”.
“He lost the love of his life, someone he had taken advanced steps, culturally, to spend the rest of his life with. The love and support of Anele’s family and a grief counsellor have also been some relief to him,” his publicist added,” she said.
AKA and Nelli got engaged in February
The pair were engaged in February this year, and on 24 March he posted pictures from their Lobola negotiations. Their love played out on AKA’s social media pages and the pair looked happy and loved up in Instagram stories over the weekend.
The couple were outed to the public in January 2020 when a video of them kissing at a restaurant began circulating. AKA thanked the person who shared the video on Twitter by saying: “That TMZ-style video someone took of me while out for dinner the other night was probably one of the biggest favours someone ever did me. Thank you whoever that was.”
Police said they are investigating the details surrounding the incident, and have made no further statement.
Details of when Tembe will be laid to rest have not yet been released by the family.
