Brendan Smith, from Perth in Western Australia, had only just arrived in Johannesburg when the lion attacked him through the window of a car.
He was bitten by a lion in the Lion Park near Honeydew, Johannesburg, and he has admitted that he was in the wrong for rolling down his window.
Recalling the attack in a Facebook post, Smith explained that he had only been in South Africa for 36 hours when the incident occurred. ‘No later than 36 hours after touching down in Africa I find myself in hospital after a lion jumped through the car window and decided to go to town on my legs. Pretty full-on but am alive, with insurance coming to the party and an influx of curious Africans wanting to see “the lion man”.
‘Could have and should have been a lot worse but chicks dig scars so I’ll be sweet!’
Smith was treated at Johannesburg’s Fourways Life Hospita. His dad, Brian Smith, said he was glad that his son’s injuries were not more serious. ‘So glad it’s not worse. Very lucky lad. You will be in pain for weeks’, he wrote on social media. ’I think u should cut your losses and get on the next plane home after hospital. Take care.’
