A bodyboarder missing at Chintsa beach in East London since Tuesday, 13 April has still not been found, and new information revealed the bite marks on his board – that washed up on the shore – are that of a great white shark.
What’s on in and around East London confirmed the identity of the bodyboarder as Robert Frauenstein.
In a post on Facebook the group said, “A media report will be released shortly regarding the missing body-boarder, Robert Frauenstein. He has not been found, but the teeth marks in the board are confirmed as that of a large Great White.”
Social media users conveyed thoughts and prayers to his family on the post.
“Hope he gets home back safe so he can spend time with his loved onceMy prayers are with you all at this time,” read one post.
“Keeping his family in our prayers,” said another.
The National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) in East London issued a shark warning to bathers along the stretch of coastline between East London and North of Chinsta on Wednesday after the board, with bite marks, washed up on shore.
“The SA Police Services, Police K-9 Search and Rescue and a Police Dive Unit are engaged in a search operation and they are joined by a private helicopter (volunteered to assist in a search by a local businessman), the EC Government Health EMS rescue helicopter and friends of the missing man, who have launched boats to assist in the Police search,” said NSRI on Wednesday.
