Losing your keys is frustrating enough, but losing your car to the ocean is an entirely different problem you don’t want to face on holiday in Hermanus.
A tourist learnt this lesson the hard way when his rental car rolled from the parking area and plunged into the sea at the Hermanus Harbour over the weekend.

TimesLive reported that a US tourist lost all his equipment when the car he was renting rolled off the jetty and sank to the sea floor.
He stopped at the Hermanus harbour to pick up his gear and forgot to pull up the handbrake
According to the website, the man spent the days before the unfortunate incident scuba diving and even enjoyed a whale cruise. He stopped at the harbour to pick up his gear and mistakenly forgot to pull up the handbrake, which set the car in motion.
CCTV video footage shows the car parked close to the edge, and moments later you see the car rolling into the sea, then bobbing around before turning over.
It is alleged the man was on a nine month tour in South Africa, and all his equipment, including expensive cameras and his laptop were in the car when it went down.
