As most people know, Archbishop Desmond Tutu has been unwell and in hospital for a number of weeks. A few hours ago Tutu was discharged from Cape Town hospital.
Having had a number of very high profile visitors to his hospital bedside Tutu has rallied.
FW de Klerk and Thabo Mbeki have all been visitors to Tutu’s bedside in recent weeks and hopefully this will be the last time such visits will be needed.
The recurring infection that has plagued the 83-year-old Nobel peace laureate is reported by the BBC to be from a complication with a Prostate Cancer treatment Tutu had been receiving. It seems the infection has retreated enough for Tutu to return home.
In a statement Tutu has expressed his thanks to staff at the Cape Town hospital.
“The love, prayers and good wishes expressed by people around the world had been just as important as the medical attention in aiding the arch’s [Tutu’s] recovery,” his daughter Rev Canon Mpho Tutu said.
