The search for a 15-year-old pupil – who disappeared in the surf at a beach in East London on Thursday, 29 August – is ongoing.
NSRI East London was alerted following reports of a drowning near the Palm Springs Holiday Resort close to East London at 2.30pm on Thursday.
Geoff McGregor, NSRI East London duty controller, said they dispatched a police dive unit and police K-9 search and rescue when the call came in for assistance.

“On arrival on the scene a search commenced for a 15 year old female learner reported to have gone missing in the surfline after being swept out to sea by rip currents while swimming with fellow learners.
“Despite an extensive search there remains no sign of the missing teenager. The missing teenager is from Idutywa, Eastern Cape, and one of 30 learners on an outing with an educational group,” he said.
Search operations to find the teenager are ongoing.
“Our thoughts are with the family of the missing teenager in this difficult time,” said McGregor.
