Emalahleni mayor has tragically passed away in a car accident that took place on Sunday the 2nd of January. This would be adding to the many other road accident deaths during the festive season.
Emalahleni Mayor And Husband Passed On
With many people being on the roads during the festive season, the minister of transport, Fikile Mbalula urged South African’s to be vigilant on the roads and to be mindful of the rules of the road.
The accident resulted in three deaths on Sunday. The driver of the second vehicle died on the scene. The Malatjie’s were admitted to the hospital but died in the early hours of Monday morning.
Traffic Law Enforcement Are Investigating The Crash
Presently, an investigation is still underway on the reason for the collision between the two vehicles. The head-on collision involved a bakkie that belonged to the second driver and a car that the Malatjie’s were driving in.
To many, Emalahleni mayor Linah Malatjie would be remembered as a committed activist who played a key role in stabilizing the governance and systems in her local municipality. She was officially sworn in as mayor in the 2016 local government elections.
According to eyewitness news, Linah Malatjie belonged to a generation of post-apartheid activists. The ANC is expressed that they have lost a valuable member of their organization.
Linah Malatjie Played Many Roles In The Community
Linah is a great loss to the ANC and a great loss as a mother and a family member. The minister of transport shared his condolences to the family. He added that he was saddened by their death.
Now, Linah Malatjie was a leader not just through her position as mayor but served as a leader in three administrations such as the ANC, COSATU as well as the ANC Women’s League.
