The petrol price that will rise to R12.62 a litre in Gauteng will now include a 30 cents a litre rise in the fuel levy announced by Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan in his February budget speech.
If you do the math you will find that the petrol price has now risen by 7.5% from last month. The diesel drivers are not saved either with diesel rising by almost 10%.
What you will pay?
Petrol 95 – 88c/litre
Petrol 93 – 0.86c/litre
Diesel – 0.97c/litre
The Automobile Association (AA) said late last month that “although the rand-dollar exchange rate has firmed in the rand’s favour over the past few weeks‚ the strengthening of international petroleum product rises has outstripped the rand’s gains”.
The association said that the fuel price was subject to considerable risk.
“If oil prices continue to climb‚ South African motorists can expect substantial fuel price increases‚” AA said.
