South Africa’s low-cost airline, Safair, introduced a new route from Cape Town to Bloemfontein on Monday – amid news of other flailing airlines.
The company, known as the most on-time airline in the country, on Monday confirmed that it launched a new route which will be operational from 30 July 2021.
“We’ve launched a new route, and we’re not pollen your leg when we say it’s the best of the bunch! That’s right, from 30 July 2021, we start flying between Cape Town and Bloemfontein, AKA, The City of Roses. So, if you need to travel between these two cities, be it for business or leisure, it’s time to put the petal to the metal and book now,” Safair said on all their social media channels.
This news comes at a time when other airlines are suffering the opposite problem – also on Monday morning, Mango’s Acting CEO said in an interview on ENCA that the airline is headed for business rescue. Mango follows in the steps of its parent company, South African Airways (SAA) who was only recently removed from business rescue since 2019.
“What we can say is that the board and shareholders have agreed that Mango will go into business rescue,” SAA’s interim Chief Executive Officer, Thomas Kgokolo, said of Mango’s demise. “We are currently in consultation with our key stakeholders in terms how we can manage that particular process.”
