The Gift of the Givers has been working tirelessly to assist families and people affected by the unrest in KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng – but have warned locals about distributors pretending to be them.
It is shocking that during a time like this, there are still people spreading fake news on social media channels.
In a post on their social media channels, humanitarian aid organisation Gift of the Givers warned of fake news.
“It has been brought to our attention that fake news in regards to #GiftoftheGivers distributions is being spread on all social media channels. The below messages have surfaced: ***Hope you are all well and safe. If any families need food parcels in Durban please contact the following number. Vicknesh 0834510437 Give them your name , telephone number, address and number of people in the family. They will deliver. Please send message to anyone who needs. The trucks arrived this morning in Durban.**** Imtiaz Sooliman (gift of the givers) is giving food away to anyone in kzn. He arranged drop off points everywhere so people can go and collect.”
The Gift of the Givers have distanced themselves from this message making the rounds on social media and in Whatsapp Groups. Please do not send them your details or reach out to them, as they are not part of the organisation bringing aid to communities.
If you come across this message please do not share. The Gift of the Givers are assisting communities and you can follow their social media channels to find more about which areas they are helping.
