According to a new report by the UN Aids-related deaths has fallen by at least 41 percent.
The report says the global response to HIV has averted 30 million new HIV infections and nearly 8 million AIDS-related deaths since 2000, when the Millennium Development Goals were set.
According to the man who believes you can prevent Aids by taking a hot shower, SA president Jacob Zuma, the findings demonstrated that South Africa’s aggressive HIV/AIDS treatment campaign, the biggest in the world, had yielded remarkable results in preventing AIDS-related deaths.
However, Zuma cautioned against complacency in the fight against HIV and Aids, saying that the fight against the stigma, as well as support for all those infected and affected by it, should continue.
The UN report, released earlier this week, said that the world was on track to end the AIDS epidemic by 2030.
