Hello darkness, our old friend: Eskom!

The "Prince of Darkness" – better known as the CEO of Eskom – is ready to strike again and wrap South Africa under his shroud of blackness. Yes, we know there is no economy in the world that will ever grow without electricity but state-owned "power supplier" (and we say this with lots of reluctance) Eskom has again warned of rotational loadshedding because of "technical problems". This will strain SA's already tight national electricity grid.

Hello darkness, our old friend: Eskom!

Eskom has now called on customers to cut back 10% of their electricity consumption. The problem is attributed to technical problems, which remains undisclosed. According to Eskom spokesman Andrew Etzinger a combination of technical issues at the country’s ageing power stations is to blame.

The Prince of Darkness, CEO Tshediso Matona, said in a statement: “We are doing everything we can to ensure the continued supply of electricity and our technical teams are hard at work to bring back units at our generating plants.” And despite warnings that the system would remain fragile throughout all of November, we – like every other taxpayer in SA – will love to believe him.
