The Sunday Independent reports an investigation by PricewaterhouseCoopers’ (PwC) found some of this expenditure was “unreasonable”. The report makes reference to R1m spent on 400 steel pot plant containers, R899,000 on furniture for Pansy Tlakula’s office, which included 23 diamond padded five-star base chairs that cost the taxpayer more than R110,000, R28,000 for a desk and R48,000 for a TV display. Tlakula authorised an office move and spent the millions to decorate her new pad.
The report says the procurement process was not fair, transparent, or cost-effective. Neither did Tlakula give guidance or inform various people what was expected of them in the process.
We know a few things now: 1. The IEC’s big lady likes her furniture and pot plants; 2. The People at the IEC should be fit; and 3. The people at the IEC don’t follow the rules. At this rate when we arrive at our foreign embassies to vote on 30 April we might all get a goodie bag and boerewors rolls… all paid for by SA’s long suffering tax payers.
