The 16-year-old Marlie van Breda, who survived a brutal axe attack at her home in Stellenbosch in South Africa has reportedly made a remarkable recovery and has been discharged from a rehabilitation facility. But unfortunately this might not mean that significant progress can be made in solving the case as she cannot remember the attack.
The 16-year old underwent neurosurgery after her scull had been fractured in the attack on her and her family at the De Zalze Golf Estate outside Stellenbosch in January. Her parents and older brother were killed. Her younger brother sustained minor injuries.
Doctors said in a statement the teenager cannot recall what happened during the attack as she has retrograde amnesia. She is now in the care of family friends.
Western Cape police said while nobody has been arrested, progress is being made in solving it.
