The statement by the local ANC comes in the wake of the Nelson Mandela Metro for the first time receiving proper service delivery in all areas as well as road maintenance and responsible governance.
Issued by Gift Ngqondi (who can certainly not be ‘Gift’ed – Ed.), Media & Communications Clown of the ANC in the Nelson Mandela Bay Region, he says “the Nelson Mandela Bay Executive Mayor, Athol Trollip, has failed dismally to govern the Metro and is preoccupied with infighting within the Coalition hence they illegally voted out the Deputy Executive Mayor in the last Council meeting”.
Ngqondi says “since the local government elections in August 2016, governance and service delivery have collapsed in the City. This clearly shows the inability of the DA coalition to run the Municipality.
“Crucially, the all-important Budget Amendments and Financial Statements to the Auditor General have still not been tabled in Council for compliance as the deadline is the 31st August 2017. We know for a fact that the DA has been clueless in fulfilling their governance obligations.”
The ANC, who has governed the Metro since 1994 without success, now claims it is committed to exhaust all legal and political avenues to ensure Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality is able to provide “basic services to the communities despite this collapse of DA governance.
They also want the MEC of Local Government and Traditional Affairs, Fikile Xasa to “invoke Section 139 of the Constitution to place the Metro under administration”.
