The Animal Welfare Society of South Africa (AWS) is one step closer to capturing the monster that has been butchering cats in the Manenberg area in Cape Town since mid-July.
On Monday morning, AWS believed they made huge progress when they dispossessed the suspected Manenberg Cat Serial Killer of his hunting partners – a vicious Pitbull Cross and feisty Short-Haired Terrier Cross.
“Having viewed CCTV footage from two independent sources we strongly suspect that this is how the individual catches the unsuspecting cats before torturing, disemboweling and dumping their bodies. Both dogs have extensive scarring especially to their faces indicative of cat claw lacerations,” AWS said.
The claw marks are yet to be verified by senior vets, and will form part of the ongoing investigation.
“According to curious onlookers the dogs are vicious and have bitten people. We suspect their aggression to be as a direct result of gross neglect by the individual unanimously singled out as their owner who disingenuously denies any involvement in the cat killings and ownership of the dogs this despite the CCTV footage, their scars and fact that we confiscated both dogs from his home that doubles up as a shambolic scrap yard,” the animal welfare said.
Sadly, another two cats were found bludgeoned with a brick or a heavy object in Renoster Walk Manenberg – raising the number of dead cats to 42.
“Their pulverized bodies were left out in the open as if to taunt us and cause maximum uproar but nothing will deter us from catching this evil individual whose reign of terror is about to come to an abrupt end.Our reward has been increased to R10 000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the killer.
“This is over and above an independent reward of an equal sum by a 3rd party. We are one or two pieces of the puzzle away from apprehending this murderous maniac and we implore the community to continue providing us with leads and information,” said AWS.
