New drink drive machine out to get you

If you have been out drinking and driving over this festive period in Johannesburg and you haven’t been ‘klapped’ by Mayor Herman Mashaba’s new Evidential Breath Alcotest Machine (EBAT), you are merely lucky. This piece of wizardly has devious powers to ensure you get locked up.

Drinking and driving to become same kind of offence as rape and murder

Unlike previous alcohol drink drive testing kits, the new EBAT gives a print out of the driver’s alcohol level after a test is conducted, which removes the need to conduct a physical blood test.

MyBroadband.co.za reports the EBAT test result is provided to the driver and the investigating officer, which makes immediate arrests possible. The results are printed out on thermal paper which lasts around seven years to limit any legal problems.

This new alcohol level testing machine, Mashaba said, will ensure drunken drivers to get court fast. It will also increase successful prosecutions.

This is hoped to deter people from driving drunk which will reduce road fatalities, especially over the festive season.
