Next stop? Wi-Fi!

IT News Africa reports that Radwin, a provider of sub-6 GHz broadband wireless solutions, will provide its FiberinMotion wireless mobility system to the City achieve up to 100 Mbps on every bus.

In the introductory test phase of the project over 200,000 unique users have used the Tshwane Free WiFi service. Total data usage has exceeded 30 Terabytes. Project Isizwe – a non-profit organisation which brings Internet to low income communities across South Africa – spearheaded the project.

The first phase equiped 30 buses with FiberinMotion Vehicular Mobile Units (VMUs). This is now being rolled out with the aim to equip all buses.

The mayor of Tshwane, Kgosiento Ramokgopa, says the uninterrupted connectivity on board the buses enable passengers to work on assignments, send emails and communicate with friends at no cost.
