AfriForum Youth lodged the complaint against Nzimande after taking offence about the “controversial utterances”. Nzimande said during a speech at the University of Zululand that the Nkandla reports nothing more than “lies that are being told by white people”.
The Constitutional Court ruled earlier this year that President Jacob Zuma must pay back a percentage of the tax money that was not spent on security upgrades at his private Nkandla residence. This judgement formed part of the Nkandla report that was made available last year by Thuli Madonsela, the Public Protector (PP).
“Why is Nzimande making this a race issue, while the report originates from the office of the Public Protector? Such utterances cultivate race tension rather than promoting respect between communities,” said Morné Mostert, AfriForum Youth’s National Project Coordinator.
AfriForum Youth has requested the HRC to conduct an investigation into Nzimande’s utterances and to give the assurance that any action or utterances that are contradictory with the Bill of Rights, need to be rectified.
