According to various news reports the SABC has – and this in not in line with their own charter – decided to kick any form of amaBoere to touch. Channel24 reports the “SABC News will dump the Afrikaans TV news bulletin as well as the additional TV news bulletins in other indigenous South African languages from 1 April”. We did not check if this might be an April’s Fool’s joke, but Channel24 says it is not.
The reports reads: “The South African public broadcaster’s 24-hour TV news channel is apparently also doing away from April with its regular weekly half-hour magazine shows like Health Talk, Film SA, Bophelong, Afroshowbiz News, Rights & Recourse, The Journal and Kaleidoscope, which are not to be found on the April schedule of SABC News.”
The report also claims that “SABC spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago didn’t respond to multiple media enquiries and calls Channel24 made since last week about the upcoming SABC News schedule changes and why the SABC is cutting news in all vernacular languages on the channel and getting rid of the other magazine programming.”
We are not too surprised. With the way the SABC’s ANC cronies are wasting tax payers’ money it’s a surprise they have funds to continue with news in English!
