According to the EFF founding manifesto “The state should, through its legislative capacity, transfer all land to the state, which will administer and use land for sustainable development purposes.”
If you are lucky enough to be a land-owner, like Julius was before the South African Revenue Services took it away from him, you will not be paid for your land. “This transfer should happen without compensation, and should apply to all South Africans, black and white,” according to the manifesto.
But who will work this land? Apparently only people who are lucky enough to get a licence from the state. The manifesto says those intending to use land under state control (now that will be al of it, off course) will apply for a “land-use licence”. We can smell the corruption in handing out these licenses a few miles away.
The licence would be valid for 25 years and could be renewed based on whether the land was being used as planned. “The state should, within this context, hold the right to withdraw the licence and reallocate the land for public purposes.”
The EFF said expropriation without compensation was one of its seven non-negotiable “cardinal pillars”. We just cannot wait to see the other six…
