Oliver’s brother also surrendered to Boksburg SPCA by owner

The Oliver plot thickens… Boksburg SPCA have not rested in following up with the neglected dog’s owner and during a follow up visit, have stumbled across another dog on the premises.

For those who have not been following Oliver the Dachshund’s extraordinary journey – he was handed over to the Boksburg SPCA by his owner two weeks ago in a rusty old bucket, in a pool of oil. Oli was full of worms, severely malnourished and terrified of humans.

SPCA workers chased his owner away when they saw the condition of the poor little helpless guy. Oliver stole the hearts of many across the world, and donations poured in for his upkeep. He is healing well, and doesn’t have any serious health conditions, although his fear of people hasn’t subsided yet.

In a post on Thursday, 20 May Boksburg SPCA said their inspectors were hard at work behind the scenes to find out more about Oliver’s owners.

“Bright and early on the morning after Oliver was brought into our society our Inspectorate visited the home where Oliver had lived. No one was home but on inspection it was found that there was another cross Dachshund on the property,” the post read.

The inspector says the dog they found was in better condition than Oli but his living conditions were a huge concern. They left a warning for the owners, and gave them 24 hours to sort out the living conditions and make contact with them.

“After receiving no communication from the owner our Inspector again visited the property. After spending some time raising the concerns found and educating the owner on the basic requirements needed to keep a dog, the owner decided to surrender the remaining dog into the care of the Boksburg SPCA.”

Oliver’s brother is called Huckleberry, and is very bit as gorgeous as Oli but has the same fear of humans. The SPCA says he doesn’t have any serious health issues other than worms and his distrust of people.

Because the dogs were surrendered there will be no prosecution, as it is a voluntary act.

“While our Inspectorate are collating all the information around Oliver’s neglect & surrender we wish to remind the public that, as woefully neglected and thin as Oliver is, he was not dumped or discarded and left to die – he was brought into the sanctuary of our society for surrender.

“As a result of Oliver’s surrender, and the overwhelming public support we’ve received, we have been able to give Oliver the best medical care that would never have been afforded to him otherwise. Secondly, out of Oliver’s surrender another precious soul, Huckleberry, has been saved from a life deprived of love and basic care. Seen in the photo is Oliver and his brother,” they clarified.
