This came to light during his bail hearing this morning after the Supreme Court of Appeal found him guilty of murder last week when five judged changed his manslaughter conviction to murder. Pistorius was in court to apply for bail before he is sentenced next year. His lawyer applied for bail in the run-up to Pistorius application for leave to appeal to the Constitutional Court. He will only be allowed to appeal if he wins the right to do so through the legal process.
He is currently under house arrest after spending one year of his original five-year sentence in jail.
He was released on R10,000 bail, and is due to return to court on 18 April. He now faces a minimum 15-year jail sentence for murdering his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp in 2013.
Prosecution lawyer Gerrie Nel said he had agreed to more stringent house arrest conditions and to electronic monitoring.
Meanwhile the families of murdered Port Elizabeth school teacher Jayde Panayiotou and Reeva Steenkamp will be taking part in a march on the Port Elizabeth beachfront on Wednesday in honour of the two murdered women.
Alcoa FM news reports the marchers will be showing their support for the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children campaign which ends on Thursday.
Jayde’s sister Toni Inggs writes in a social media posting that her and Reeva’s families, as well as other people who have lost loved ones in violent crimes, will take part in the march.
