Cooperative Governance Minister Des van Rooyen says numerous fraud and corruption investigations in the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro are ‘worrying’.
Van Rooyen was speaking in Port Elizabeth (the ANC calls is Nelson Mandela Bay – Ed.) head of the African National Congress (ANC)’s manifesto launch this weekend.
He says investigations have identified collusive practices between municipality officials, companies and politicians.
The Nelson Mandela Bay Metro is investigating 19 fraud and corruption cases.
This includes a forensic investigation into the metro’s stalled Integrated Public Transport System.
The fleet of 25 buses cost more than R100 million while upgrades to the city’s road infrastructure to accommodate them cost almost R2 billion.
The buses have been found to be too big for some roads in Port Elizabeth and were meant to be operational since the 2010 Soccer World Cup.
And even more kak to come – stay tuned.
