The City of Durban’s Environmental Health Department has warned locals not to consume contaminated meat products looted from a Hammarsdale warehouse during the unrest. As well as any meat sold on the side of the road.
An inspection conducted at the Sequence Cold Storage Warehouse revealed that the meat and chicken products are unsafe for consumption. The warehouse was looted last week.
It is also alleged that drivers contracted to dispose of the meat safely were found selling the contaminated goods to the public.
Environmental Health inspectors and the Metro Police are monitoring the situation and have told residents who have this meat to dispose of it responsibly in a refuse bin. They warned not to dump or bury the meat as this could cause serious ecological issues.
