The South African Police (SAPS) have removed an estimated R5 million worth of drugs off the streets of Gauteng during a sting operation on Monday, 28 June.
Five suspects between the ages of 30 – 58 were arrested and will appear in the Alberton Magistrates Court shortly. They will face charges of contravening the Medicine Act, as well as the illegal manufacturing making of, and dealing in, drugs.

In a statement, police spokesperson Captain Ndivhuwo Mulamu said: “Hawks’ South African Narcotics Enforcement Bureau together with the Crime Intelligence and Provincial Tactical Response Team followed up on intelligence regarding suspected dagga consignment to be delivered in the Alberton area. Police kept surveillance at a positively identified residence in Alberton yesterday (Monday, 28 June) and pounced on the suspects allegedly operating a fully functional cannabis oil extraction process.”
The suspects were swiftly arrested and charged.
“The investigation team together with Forensic Science Laboratories Services seized all cannabis oil extraction equipment with an estimated value of R5 million,” said Mulamu.
They hinted at more arrests as they investigate the case further.
