Rand on a slippery slope

The rand closed at R9.5615to the dollar yesterday and analysts expected it to slide further today. The currence stood at R14,468 to the pound and R12,298 to the Euro.

Saffas sending money home could expect to get over R14 to the pound depending on who they use as sending agent.

Expectations are that the rand could slide further as controversial restructuring takes place at Anglo Platinum (Amplats) mines. Unions are threatening with strikes in the face of plans to axe 6,000 jobs in a bid to get the world’s biggest platinum producer to run profitable.
