A South African delegation is scheduled to address the World Society of Victimology on the impact of farm attacks in South Africa during its international symposium underway in Australia this week.
Speaking to OFM News from Perth, AfriForum deputy CEO Ernst Roets says the presentation will focus on the frequency of the attacks, the unique levels of brutality, the impact on victims and government’s lack of action.
AfriForum and the agricultural union TAU SA say since 1990 at least 1,747 farm murders and 3,542 farm attacks took place. Of the 1,747 murder victims 1,133 were farmers, 465 direct family members, 130 farm workers and 19 visitors.27 murders and 116 attacks took place in the first six months of 2015.
