It’s such a feel-good story when someone who really deserves riches wins the lottery – South Africa’s latest National Lottery winner is a security guard, and he’s just bagged R11 million rand.
The guard came forward to claim his winnings after playing a R15 quick pic selection on Powerball, on June 15, a day he is sure to never forget for the rest of his life.
National lottery operator Ithuba announced the winner, saying he lives in Orange Farm in Gauteng, and had purchased the winning ticket in Orange Farm, Stretford, just hours before the draw. Now that’s what you call the luck of the draw!
“The winner spent R15 on the winning ticket using the Quick Pick selection method,” said Ithuba.
He wasn’t the only winner though, two tickets had the winning numbers on that particular draw which was valued at R22 million. Ithuba is still looking for the other winner so you better check your numbers. The second winner bought their ticket via the National Lottery website online platform, with a ticket wager of R60, using the manual selection method.
When asked what he wanted to do with the money, the 48-year-old said he wants to realise the dream of building his family the home they’ve always wanted.
“The winnings will make a massive difference in our lives, my wife is currently unemployed and we have three children that are currently in school. A portion of the winnings will go towards their tertiary education. I want to invest in property and start a transportation company.
“Lastly, I plan on getting my wife and I brand-new cars and investing the rest of our winnings,” said he said.
