Silvermine Dam, within the Table Mountain National Park in Cape Town will remain closed to the public until further notice, according to a statement released by SANParks. This is in response to a 69-year-old male hiker who went missing on Sunday, 21 March.
Rescue operations to find the man kicked off on Monday, after his wife reported him missing. It is alleged that his wallet, clothing and other personal items were found at Silvermine Dam, and his car was also recovered there – but there are no sign of the hiker.
SANParks, together with the SAPS Diving Unit, Metro Rescue Unit, City of Cape Town Fire Department Diving Unit, Working on Fire team, and TMNP Rangers have been working tirelessly to find clues that could lead to him.
In a Facebook post, SANParks apologised for the inconvenience the closure caused to the public and advised that the area will remain under lockdown until further notice.
