South Africa’s police brutality continues to shock. This time we can see evidence in a shocking video of a grandmother’s head being trampled in a police scuffle.
The incident took place in full view of the community in Cape Town on Sunday November 23. It is alleged that the 50-year-old grandmother, Roseline Appolis was ‘roughly arrested’ after she intervened in a street fight where her daughter was slapped by the police.
The graphic footage shows Appolis lying down, then one of the police stepping on her head as he “climbs over” her. Appolis was then arrested and kept in a cell for two days.
Some of the bystanders started swearing at the police and one man, speaking in Afrikaans, even asked the police to hit him instead and leave the old woman alone.
According to eNCA, Appolis appeared in court on 25 November, and told to go to hospital to collect a medical certificate if she wanted to lay a complaint against the police.
