The letter to former Stellenbosch University students begging for money in the SRC’s #AccessToALL and #RegisterALL campaign was sent via email asking for “any amount” to be paid into a Standard Bank account.
The letter says the “current Stellenbosch University SRC needs support. Over the past months, you will have heard and read about the nation-wide crisis regarding access to higher education. As a nation, we are losing countless future doctors, engineers, lawyers, and future professionals to every sector of our economy and society because students are being financially excluded.”
The letter, sent by James de Villiers, Stellenbosch SRC Vice-Chair & Head of Communication, on behalf of the Stellenbosch University SRC for 2015/2016 also says they believe in the #AccessToALL and will work to #RegisterALL. “we believe that no financial limitation should keep students who have been accepted to study at university from the opportunity to study. Since the SRC’s first day in office we have worked and campaigned with student leaders and movements against any form of exclusion at Stellenbosch University and today we continue that fight.
“We ask you to stand together with us to help to #RegisterALL and to prevent all academically deserving students from being sent home because they are unable to pay. We call on all alumni, staff and friends of the University to invest in the future of South Africa.
“We trust that Stellenbosch University made a big difference in your life, whether that difference happened 50 years ago, or much more recently. Help us to create that opportunity for other Maties through generous donation.
“Your contribution, no matter how small, will make a difference and can help us to #RegisterALL. Please join the movement, and spread the word to your friends, family and colleagues and make a contribution. You can deposit any amount into the #RegisterALL bank-account:
Account number: 073 00 69 55
Branch-number: 05 06 10
Bank: Standard Bank
Account: US deposit account
Reference: RegisterALL H494
“We hope you will join us in our fight to #RegisterALL. Access to higher education is not only a Stellenbosch issue; it is a South African issue and we are calling on our government to find solutions.
T”ogether we continue in working towards a truly inclusive, innovative, and future-focussed Stellenbosch University by ensuring #AccessToALL. We believe that, as South Africans, it is our responsibility,” reads the letter.
