Being registered to vote is one thing, but it doesn’t help if you can’t get to a voting station. Since the launch of the DA’s overseas voting campaign they have received hundreds of emails from South Africans abroad who have expressed frustration at not being able to get to the allocated voting stations to cast their votes due to the long distance from where they live. The DA says they share these frustrations and while they will continue to pursue legal channels to improve access to voting abroad ahead of the 2019 elections, they have also launched a petition calling on the Department of International Relations and Co-operation (DIRCO) and the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) to provide more reasonable access to voting stations where there are large diaspora of South Africans living for this year’s voting.
Expat Saffas will have to move quickly to convince DIRCO and the IEC ahead of the 2014 elections that South Africans around the world care about SA and want to vote. To make this case the DA needs each and every one to sign a petition as an indication of your commitment to casting your vote, should you have reasonable access to a voting station.
The success of this campaign depends on you. Once you’ve signed the petition please share with all your friends and family abroad. The goal is 50,000 signatures in the next 25 days! Click here and pass this on.
