Dozens of UK visa applications containing documents, including passports and marriage certificates, have been stolen after a hijacking in Johannesburg.
Eyewitness News reports several South Africans applying for visas to the UK, either for business, pleasure or permanent relocation, have been left feeling vulnerable after their personal documents were taken.
Apparently the British High Commission had the documents couriered when the courier truck was hit by hijackers. An email to explain what happened was sent to several South Africans who had applied for UK visas.
All the supporting documents like passports is gone as well as banking details, home addresses and marriage certificates. The British High Commission has confirmed that a hijacking incident did take place.
